I have moved! 110mb.com is no longer my host. I also now use a different domain.

Please go here: http://www.drazzke.com to be redirected to my new host.

I switched hosts at the same time as the domain change.

Thank you.

Block Blaster is a small game I started creating last night. I plan to finish it by the end of next week.

Anyways, in Block Blaster, you control a little green ship. You must destroy certain coloured blocks that fall from the top of the screen. This isn't a game where you "Shoot the red blocks, but let the purple ones through). Instead, you have to build different walls of colour. In the game, there are different "rows". Lets say that the first "row" is blue. To gain points, you want blue blocks to fall into the blue row. If a red block falls into the blue row, you lose points.

Now, lets say that a red block is falling from the top of the screen, and it is going to fall right into a blue row. If you let this happen, you lose points (-150). So, you have to shoot the red block, destroying it.

If you shoot a block that is going to fall into the wrong row, you gain 10 points. If you shoot a block that it going to fall into the correct row (like blue into blue), you lose 50 points.
Lastly, if you get a block into the correct row, you gain 100 points.

There are currently 15 levels (If you beat level 15, it just goes to level 16, but level 16 looks the same as level 1).

To beat a level, you have to fill in all the rows. Depending on the level, there will be a different number of rows, and the rows will also be a different width.

Controls

Arrow Keys: Move Ship

Shift, Z, or Space: Shoot

Download: http://willhostforfood.com/?Action=download&fileid=34117

Some Notes:

- Do not let your ship get hit with a block. It restarts the level AND you lose 500 points.

- If your points go down to 0, you lose, and the game restarts. (you start with 200 points).

- Blocks with no colour on them are just there to get in the way. Don't let them fall into any row.

Updates Coming

- Menu

- In game tutorial

- Highscores (hopefully online)

- Rockets that destroy already in place blocks

- Other ships that will shoot you (maybe)

- your suggestions.

The game is not on the "Games" page yet, and wont be until it is complete.

YYG Competition 04 - Game Maker
Yoyo Games has officially announced their fourth competition, on their glog

This competitions theme is a 'green' theme, in which the game should be based on saving the world (from pollution, global warming, etc). I think it's a great theme that isn't too restricting, but does need some creative thinking on order to make a good game design.

Anyways, I know I posted about this already, but my brother and I are going to be entering a game (that is already in development). This should be one of my personal best games, so I'm all excited.

Are you going to enter?

Competition Page: http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/competition04

Also, quick notice, I bought http://www.drazzke.com, so that should be working within the next day or so.

YYG rating system - Game Maker
The last little while, there has been an ongoing discussion about the Yoyo Games Rating system.

Currently, the Yoyo Games rating system works, but isn't all that great. It often doesn't show the actual quality of the game. YYG plans on changing the system, and this topic is talking about different ways of doing so.

I personally haven't posted or suggested much, but I have read through quite a lot of the topic, and I honestly must say, some of the suggestions are hilarious - not that I am trying to offend anyone.

The only idea that I have seen so far that I think would actually work successfully, is KC LC's idea. She basically said that the source of the problem is not the rating system itself, but more of the site design. She then continued to say that "The solution is to give more games a chance at visibility -- i.e., more first pages. One way to do this is to have separate pages for different genres. Each game would be categorized in ONE particular genre (sorry, cross-genre games... you must pick ONE). There could be 10 -12 different genres." (Read Post)

I think this could work quite well, although I still think the rating system does need a bit fixing up anyways - although it sounds like YYG plan to do this soon anyway.

Anyways, what are your opinions on the matter, if you have any?
